Koh Tao is located in the Gulf of Thailand, 80 km South East of Chumpon and 60 km north of Koh Samui. The island is only accessible by boat as there is no airport, this definitely helps it keep a true tropical paradise.
The weather is sunny most of the time except during the Monsoon month in November when it generally rains for about an hour a day in the early morning. The driest months are from February to May. July, August and September are a little more windy helping break up the heat.
Over the last 15 years or so Koh Tao has become a favoured destination for both learner divers and experienced divers. With around 20 dive sites within 30 minutes of the island and 30+ metre visibility there’s plenty to see for even the most experienced diver.
For food
Eating out is what most people do, it's just so cheap. There are excellent local Thai cooks as well as top class western chefs who have now settled on the island, catering for simple snacks to full 3 course, a la carte meals. Everything is available from a local Thai dish to steak, sushi, pizza and pasta, Indian, even Mexican. Many restaurants also show the most recent movies on big screen TV's. A favorite for many Brits is 'The Greasy Spoon Cafe', who specialise in fry-up breakfasts and chip shop food. It's all here to be enjoyed.
At night
There are plenty of bars and clubs that have a great atmosphere. There are themed bars, including Irish, Australian and reggae, beach bars, chilled out lounge bars... there is even a pool hall. If clubbing is your thing, Koh Tao has several open air and enclosed air-con clubs, where professional DJ's from all around the world make party goes happy until the early hours. Fire jugglers perform, if you need a break from dancing there are chill out tables on the beach, or massive tree swings that send you flying out over the ocean.
Fancy something a bit different?
How about a Thai massage, kayaking, rock climbing, bowling, mini golf... It's all available right on your doorstep.
